Community Health Assessment & Strategies
Bay Area Hospital is committed to serving the health needs of the community. In 2018, we updated our Community Health Assessment (CHA). This was a collaborative effort with community stakeholders to collect and analyze local data in an effort to determine the health status and needs of our community.
The CHA is a snapshot of our community’s health, and we use this report to prioritize our health improvement efforts. We are currently in the process of evaluating the new CHA for renewed implementation strategies.
When the 2013 CHA was released, several priorities for improving the health of Coos County residents were identified, and a steering committee was formed. Bay Area Hospital has continued to provide resources to the steering committee as implementation strategies are designed and executed through the Community Health Improvement Plan (2015-2020).
The 2013 Community Health Assessment also brought to light the prevalence of cancer in our community; Coos County’s cancer rate is higher than the rest of Oregon. We also identified opportunities for improvement in the care of cancer patients, and conducted a focused cancer-specific community assessment in 2016. Implementation strategies have been established in coordination with the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.
