Moving Forward – Pre-Surgery Class for Total Joint Replacement


For the past six years, Bay Area Hospital, in collaboration with our orthopedic surgeons, has offered a FREE educational opportunity for patients to learn more about having total joint replacement surgery. The class is for patients and their families or caregivers to learn more about:

  • total joint replacement surgery
  • care and management before and after surgery
  • plans for discharge

This class is presented by highly skilled and trained orthopedic nurses, and the covered was developed by a multidisciplinary team of dietitians, physical therapists, occupational therapists and certified orthopedic RNs. Class content covers the best and most current evidence-based practices in total joint care, with information coming from resources such as the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses.

Participants in the class will learn:

  • basic anatomy of joint replacement
  • pain management
  • prevention of surgical risks
  • nutrition and dietary needs
  • rehab and recommended exercises for recovery
  • what to expect during a hospital stay
  • home care needs

 

This class is offered on the second and fourth Monday of each month, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Family members or support persons are encouraged to attend.
