Quality Awards and Recognition

Joint Commission Accreditations

We have received Joint Commission accreditation since our inception, and achieved the Gold Seal of Approval for quality and patient safety once again in 2016. Joint Commission standards help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. Their standards “focus on important patient, individual, or resident care and organization functions that are essential to providing safe, high quality care.” The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval® is an internationally recognized symbol of quality.

Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Cardiovascular Services

In 2015, Bay Area Hospital's Prefontaine Cardiovascular Imaging Center was granted a three-year term of accreditation in Echocardiography in the area of Adult Transthoracic by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). The IAC seal is granted only to those who provide quality patient care, in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process including detailed case study review.

Commission on Cancer

The Bay Area Cancer Center is accredited as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Care Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Nationally, only 25 percent of hospital programs are accredited. Of these, only 14 percent are accredited as Comprehensive Cancer Programs. The Tumor Registry is also accredited by the Commission on Cancer.

Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP)

Our bariatric surgery program has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the Metabolic And Bariatric Surgery Accreditation And Quality Program. Our program is one of only four programs in the state of Oregon which meet stringent enough standards to be recognized as a Center of Excellence. Bariatric surgery accreditation not only promotes uniform standard benchmarks, but also supports continuous quality improvement. MBSAQIP recognizes those facilities that implement defined standards of care, documents their outcomes, and participates in regular reviews to evaluate their bariatric surgical programs.

American Academy of Sleep Medicine

In 2014, our Sleep Study Center was accredited for the next five years through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The AASM standards look to ensure that the highest quality of care is delivered to patients with sleep disorders. “More than 2,500 sleep centers have achieved accreditation through the AASM. Since 1977, the AASM has accredited sleep facilities utilizing the AASM Standards for Accreditation of Sleep Disorders Centers. The continued quality of these requirements has made AASM facility accreditation the gold standard by which the medical community and the public evaluate sleep medicine facilities.”

College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation

Our medical laboratory and pathology services are accredited by the College of American Pathologists. Their accreditation process utilizes the most scientifically rigorous customized checklist requirements. Among other things, accreditation helps our laboratory maintain accuracy of test results and helps to ensure accurate patient diagnosis. On-site inspections occur every two years using CAP ACCREDITATION CHECKLISTS to assess compliance with program requirements.

American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

Our Women's Imaging mammography program is accredited through the American College of Radiology accreditation process. The ACR has accredited more than 38,000 facilities. The three-year renewable status includes an ongoing process for self-improvement. Accreditation highlights our commitment to providing the safest and best quality care possible.

Continuing Medical Education program Accredited with Commendation by OMA

Our Continuing Medical Education program is accredited by the Oregon Medical Association, with commendation as an outstanding program. Accredited institutions are shown to be promoting high quality health care through effective educational activities.

Chest Pain Center Accreditation

We are accredited as a Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI: Hospitals awarded this designation have Primary PCI available 24/7 every day of the year. They also have a call team made up of the cardiac cath lab staff and an interventional cardiologist who arrive to the facility within 30 minutes of STEMI activation and have mapped their STEMI processes to maximize efficiencies which lead to quicker treatment and improved outcomes.

Certified as a Level III Trauma Center

We are certified by the state as a Level 3 trauma center. The Oregon Trauma Program ensures that high quality community resources are available to respond to individuals who are traumatically injured in Oregon by assuring an integrated statewide system of resources, including establishment of trauma regions and designation of trauma care hospitals. A Level III trauma center provides comprehensive inpatient services to those patients who can be maintained in a stable or improving condition without specialized care. An in-house multidisciplinary trauma resuscitation team is immediately available upon arrival of the patient to the emergency department. A board certified general surgeon trained in ATLS is on-call and available to the patient. Level III centers also provide community education, outreach, and injury prevention programs.
